Book Review / Christmas at Lilac Cottage by Holly Martin

Welcome to the charming seaside town of White Cliff Bay, where Christmas is magical and love is in the air…

Penny Meadows loves her home – a cosy cottage decorated with pretty twinkling fairy lights and stunning views over the town of White Cliff Bay. She also loves her job as an ice-carver, creating breathtaking sculptures. Yet her personal life seems frozen.

When Henry and daughter Daisy arrive at the cottage to rent the annex, Penny is determined to make them feel welcome. But while Daisy is friendly, Henry seems guarded.

As Penny gets to know Henry, she realises there is more to him than meets the eye. And the connection between them is too strong to ignore…

While the spirit of the season sprinkles its magic over the seaside town and preparations for the ice sculpting competition and Christmas eve ball are in full swing, can Penny melt the ice and allow love in her heart? And will this finally be the perfect Christmas she’s been dreaming of?

Like a creamy hot chocolate with marshmallows, you won’t want to put this deliciously heartwarming novel down.

Spend the perfect Christmas in White Cliff Bay this year. Snowflakes on Silver Cove coming very soon.

MY REVIEW

It is not often that I pick up a holiday themed book, its just not something I tend to do often but twice I have done this this year with different results (the first being IT by Stephen King).  This is the second holiday themed book and I am so glad I had the opportunity to read this and review this as I loved this so much.

This was one of those books that from the very first page I was pulled in and did not want to put this down until the very last page.  In fact, I read this in two sittings!  One of the things I loved the most is the fact that you have Penny who had experienced an extremely bad break up and hasn't dated since.  Loving in the Lilac Cottage away from the main town she lives and works mostly in isolation.  She decides to rent out the other half of the cottage she lives in.  Here we meet Henry and Daisy and one of the most funniest first meetings I think I have ever met.  Penny innocently thought that she was renting out to a married couple so when she meets Henry and is instantly attracted to him she finds it very hard to keep her hands off...  When she first meets Daisy (who she thinks is Henry's wife, who is 16 years old) Penny is instantly alarmed and confronts Henry with very angry shouts and a punch in the chest.  When she finds out that Daisy is, in fact, Henry's daughter she is very embarrassed and Henry is very angry at being confronted in such a way...

This was such a feel good, romantic and comedic book it is definitely one that I would bring out at Christmas time and re-read again and again.  If you pick up one Christmas book this year, pick up this one...
