Book Review - Things Your Mother Never Told You by Olivia Lichtenstein

Hey guys!  I forgot to post one book review for a book that I finished this morning!!!

Here is the blurb:

'I hate you. When I'm a mother, I'm never going to be like you...' These words come back to haunt Ros, years later. As her marriage of twenty years collapses and her beloved twin sons prepare to flee the nest, Ros's world is tilting on its axis. It doesn't help that her dead mother seems to have taken up residence in her head, reminding her of things she once said. As Ros tries to adapt to sharing custody of the family dog and life without her husband and boys in the house, she embarks on a new regime to stay sane: yoga, herbal remedies, internet dating. But as Ros is trying to find herself, the arrival of a memoir her mother wrote begins to reveal a woman she never knew, taking her on a journey into her mother's past that will change for ever her idea of who she is.

My 50 Book Challenge - Update

Hey guys!

Just thought I would do a little update blog to say that I have COMPLETED MY 50 BOOK CHALLENGE!!!  I am sooooooooo happy!  Before now, if someone asked me how many books do you read a year, I would have said probably not a lot but actually seeing the list of books in front of me I can say that blimey I have read a lot and that is not over a one year period.

I started  my 50 Book Challenge at the same time as I started this blog, in June/July of this year and I can't believe that in only 5 months I have read 50 books...

I am not going to set myself another challenge until probably in the New Year where I think I will set my self a 100 Book Challenge which, going by this year, I will be able to do no probs but we'll see!!

Best wishes

Book Review - The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella

Hey guys!

This is my final review of the week.  Absolutely amazing book.

Here is the blurb :

The story of a girl who needs to slow down. To find herself. To fall in love. And to discover what an iron is for… Samantha is a high-powered lawyer in London. She works all hours, has no home life, and cares only about getting a partnership. She thrives on the pressure and adrenalin. Until one day… she makes a mistake. A mistake so huge, it’ll wreck her career. She walks right out of the office, gets on the first train she sees, and finds herself in the middle of nowhere. Asking for directions at a big, beautiful house, she is mistaken for the interviewee housekeeper and finds herself being offered the job. They have no idea they’ve hired a Cambridge-educated lawyer with an IQ of 158 – Samantha has no idea how to work the oven. Disaster ensues. It’s chaos as Samantha battles with the washing machine…the ironing board…and attempts to cook a cordon bleu dinner. But gradually, she falls in love with her new life in a wholly unexpected way. Will her employers ever discover the truth? Will Samantha’s old life ever catch up with her? And if it does…will she want it back?

Book Review - The Earth My Butt and Other Big Round Things by Carolyn Mackler

Hey guys!

This is my first review of the day.  I have been reading quite a lot this week and have managed to get through four books (which I am very chuffed with!!)...

Here is the blurb for the book:

Virginia Shreves has a "larger-than-average" body and a medium-sized inferiority complex. Her mum is an exercise fiend, her dad whistles at skinny women, and her siblings are gorgeous, clever, and impossible to live up to. They're all people Virginia thinks the world of. In fact, Virginia thinks the world of everyone but herself. Then, a phone call changes everything...

Here is my review :

I give this book 3 out of 10.

Best wishes

Book Haul - Read It Swap It and Charity Shop

Hey guys!  I have to say that I was very proud of myself this week.  I work in a town centre where within 5 minutes I can be in any book store or charity shop available, so this week I have only picked up one book from town and a couple from Read It Swap It (which is the British book swap site).

From Read It Swap it I got:

Baggageby Emily Barr

From a charity shop I bought:

Christmas in Seattle (MIRA) by Debbie Macomber

I am very excited to find the Debbie Macomber book as I am in the process of collecting all her books and unless I look on Amazon they are very rare to find...

I hope you enjoyed by haul today.

Best wishes
